History of Shell and Chevron
Shell
From selling oriental seashells, evolving to be Royal Dutch Shell in 1907, to now being one of the largest and most innovative energy companies in the world, Shell Oil has been “powering progress” since the mid 1800’s. “Shell is an international energy company with expertise in the exploration, production, refining and marketing of oil and natural gas, and the manufacturing and marketing of chemicals.” Touted as the “number one global lubricant supplier,” Shell’s scientists go above and beyond to develop the most technologically advanced formulations, all designed for the ultimate engine performance for all types of engines and for all kinds of driving challenges.
Chevron
Leading the way with what was first called Pacific Coast Oil Company, Chevron dates back to the early 1800’s when prospectors were first looking for black gold, or oil. Despite their valiant efforts, they were unsuccessful. The early petroleum pioneers would later strike oil in Pico Canyon which would evolve to be Pacific Coast Oil Co. in 1879. This would pave the way to opening the largest and most modern refinery in California. The largely successful drilling program based at Point Alameda, on San Francisco Bay, would evolve again and move to the seas where the first steel oil tanker would move barrels of crude in Northern California. After many acquisitions, Standard Oil, Co. (California) would be born. This robust history of early oil explorers have set the foundation of innovation, grit and perseverance that Chevron Oil still represents today. With the combined capacity of Chevron’s four U.S. refineries, over 932,000 barrels of oil are processed per day, making them a strong leader and developer in fuel and oil additives.
